
Post-doctoral Fellow Position is available in the Biomaterials Laboratories of Drs J. Amber Jennings and Joel D. Bumgardner for research related to the development of biomaterials for implant, drug delivery, antimicrobial materials, and tissue engineering/regenerative medicine with focus in dental/orthopedics, wound healing and skin applications. Position offers many opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration and innovation across engineering, science, manufacturing, entrepreneurial and medical disciplines at both The University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in a vibrant friendly city that is a hub for the medical device industry. Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, polymer science or a closely related field and experience with natural polymers for biomedical applications.
Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by publication record.
Successful candidate needs to have a working knowledge natural polymers, composites and chemical modifications for biomedical applications.
Preferred Qualification:
Experience in polymer characterization methodologies (e.g. GPC/HPLC, NMR, DSC, XRD, XPS, SEM mechanical testing) is desired
Experience in bio-polymers, composites and nanotechnology is advantageous.
In vitro cell culture and in vivo rodent bone models, micro-computed tomography, and histological/histomorphometric techniques is an advantage.
Special Conditions: Position is funded for one year with possible extension for an additional year.
